A dumpster can hold as much weight as the rental agreement includes, which on the Mississippi Coast runs from about one and a half tons on a 10-yard box to somewhere between two and five tons on the larger ones. The yardage tells you how much space you have; the included tons tell you how much of that space a heavy load can actually use.

Six boxes, about thirty seconds. You pick when to be called back, and that is when the phone rings.
Or call (228) 250-0380Every roll-off carries two caps. One is volume, the cubic yards printed on the side of the box. The other is weight, the tons the rental includes before an overage applies, and beyond that the load the truck is built to lift safely. For light debris, such as furniture, carpet, cardboard and cabinets, the box fills to the rim long before weight becomes a concern. For dense debris the order flips, and the weight limit arrives while most of the box is still empty.
Posted allowances from haulers serving Biloxi, Gulfport and Ocean Springs show how much this varies. One Gulfport list includes about a ton and a half on its 10-yard box. An Ocean Springs list includes three tons on a 15-yard. Across the 20-yard lists the included weight runs from about two and a half tons to five, and on 30-yard boxes from two tons to three and a half. A bigger box does not always mean a bigger allowance, so compare the tons, not just the yards.
Three kinds of work on this coast hit the weight cap more often than anything else.
Concrete, brick and slab removal. Breaking up a driveway, a patio or a slab foundation produces the densest load a homeowner will ever fill. One Harrison County hauler sells a 7.5-yard box, 6 feet wide and only 3 feet tall, specifically for concrete and fill material. The low walls are the point: a box that small cannot be overloaded by volume alone. More on these jobs is on the concrete and heavy debris dumpsters page.
Roof tear-offs. Shingles are heavy for their bulk, and a wave of them is coming. From July 1, 2026 the Mississippi Insurance Department is funding roofs built to the FORTIFIED standard for eligible wind-pool policyholders, with grants up to $10,000, and every one of those roofs starts with stripping the old one. See roofing dumpster rental for sizing a tear-off.
Flood-zone elevation work. Nearly half the land in Biloxi sits in a special flood hazard area. When repairs or improvements cost half or more of a building's market value, the city requires the whole structure to meet new-construction rules, including elevation. Those jobs often mean plaster, tile, masonry and slab coming out together, which is heavy work by any measure.
The city's own Katrina records make the point. Six months after the storm, 1,625,112 of the 2,078,194 cubic yards hauled from Biloxi streets and rights-of-way were unburnable debris rather than vegetation. Wrecked houses are mostly masonry, drywall and fixtures, which weigh far more per yard than limbs and leaves. A storm cleanout here should be planned around weight from the start, not volume.
Mississippi rubbish rules split disposal sites into two classes. A Class II site accepts only natural vegetation and inert material such as brick, mortar, concrete, stone and asphalt. A Class I site takes mixed construction and demolition debris. Biloxi has a Class II site on Road 510 and a Class I rubbish landfill on Hudson-Krohn Road. A box of nothing but broken concrete qualifies for the simpler site; the same box with a bag of drywall scraps tossed on top does not. Keeping heavy loads clean does not make them lighter, but it keeps more disposal options open.
Weight past the included allowance is billed per ton from the scale ticket after the box is dumped. Per-ton rates and the included tons for each size are laid out on the pricing page, and larger mixed jobs are covered under construction and renovation dumpsters.
